yes I was reading about the new technology..

I often wondered about life of a CD read only verses DVD.. read write..

the theory is thy last about 25 years to 200 ...tho we will not Know...

time will tell, handling storing may effect them.heat cold and dust,scratches..

I found 2 old CD RAW- that I did not burn yet..PIONEER, cdw-E74.Rewritable..

blanks. 1x4x 650mg...and sat in the draw of old CD Disks, I burned...think 10 year old.. can not remember any how thy worked perfectly..to my surprise..

So my guess is were thy are Kept stored..Most importantly handled..

Burners thy last according to abuse,Read only the same tho longer? I still have 3, 52X- max, working perfect.and a old slow sound blaster drive(DVD) read write.in mint condition..on the oldest Pentium..

2 lightonit --52x24x52x and 1 Mercury DVD ROM.and burner..and 4 spare floppy drives..anther story...

and depending how one looks them and uses..them ether carefully or roughly

thy deteriorate..? CD's and DVD's but the new ones well See if its so..

but should last longer..

the other day went to the shed where I have a heap of floppy Disks stored, and just looking for some old text files on a program and then got involved

browsing them..

thy all were working fine no data loss, that I expected.so again my Idea is

where thy are stored and Kept and handled

now talking on timing

1 I have that I am lazy to pull out and replace misses being shown

a few times more now and having to open the door several times more often till it reads..

but I suppose it age and usage, still works fine when it wakes up tho!(ha)

Yes, another factor is how well they were made.

Some manufacturers do a better job than others.

Some of the first original Floppy-disk were not made well at all.

I remember some that failed after 5 or 6 years, and they were stored in a very good location.

Its interesting when one reads the different comments.

and reminds one of the problems.. the other one thy bend out of shape easily

and then the ones with the bad sectors ,remember?

using a tool to mark the bad sectors ether by dos or a program.spending hours fixing them.

ending up with less space..and the big floppy disks slow you Know still have them,No idea why,and 2 floppy drives ,wow a whole 1,2 mg ! and

needed very careful storage..and still work on the oldest PC 386 that I every now and then fire up..to show my visitors...who enjoy watching it work..
