Optimise -vs- Prioritise

Recommended Posts

This question has been asked many times and for some reason has never received a definitive answer from Iobit.

Please once and for all explain the difference between Prioritise and Optimise when using Smart Defrag.

Hi Scannan

Good question. As I understand it Prioritize must mean ordering the files after how often they are used and placing them I the fastest lanes What IObit considers the fastest lane I do not know

If any difference exists Optimize must mean that they only order the files according to how often they are used. How this is done is not clear either number of times used and the dates of the files?

Cheers

Hi solbjerg

Hope you are well.

Once again I note that Iobit are silent on the issue. whiile your logic makes sense, it would suggest that Optimise and Prioritise are exactly the same thing. Yet Prioritise is stated as taking longer, so there must be some difference in the application of the two functions.

We really need an explanation from Iobit in order to clarify this issue for all users once and for all. Fingers crossed,

Hi Scannan and solbjerg,

Optimize: this operation will organize the defragmented files to move them together on the disk for creating largest continuous free space.

Prioritize: this operation is based on Optimize, but it will also move the frequently used files to the front of the disk for faster accessing.

Hope I have made this explanation clear. :-)

Ok,Cicely

So the optimizing is mostly regarding continuous space?

Does the defrag find so called bad blocks too - and make a note of it, or should one run a full chkdsk?

Cheers

Hi solbjerg,

This feature is not provided in current Smart Defrag. Our specialists are planning add it to Smart Defrag v5.

Cheers!
