Hi atailor

Yes!

) the first one is just a bracket (Alt+40) in Italic, the second one the the new quarter moon (Alt+9789) (263D) Italic that both possibly can be used to indicate sleep in the computer - or otherwise - should possibly use it in my signature :-).

You see it day in and day out, but never give it much thought. I for one never picked up on it.

hi Toppack

Interesting!

Is it the waning or the rising moon you refer to?

Cheers

edit: the rising moon in the picture of your outhouse apparently :-)

The 'Moon' symbol indicates an 'Outhouse'.

You do Not want to Sleep there! You may Pass-out though!

It's usually just called a 'Quarter-moon' here, meaning 1/4 of Full.

The Moon is Cut into the door to give Light and Fresh-air. ;-)

I think that is a very old outhouse symbol, used for hundreds of years before Indoor-plumbing, maybe Longer.

Here is a pic of the more common, wider 2-hole design, (1 hole for adults, 1 for kids):

Hi Toppack

The ventilaton hole in the old "das/lokum" here in Demark was usually a hole formed as a heart :-)

The tilted quarter moon was used as an icon for sleep in computers originally I think.
