V6 Safe Web Surfing

Hi, Guys

Have finally given V6 Pro a chance and noticed a few differences between V4 & 5 but the ASC Safe Web Surfing browser plugin Is this some sort of a joke.

I used FX 20 with WOT (Web Of Trust for one of a number of security plugins that I use) did a Google "Software Cracks" and some other dubious types of searches to do a comparison between WOT & ASC because as we know great places to pick up every known and unknown virus, malware & infections for PC's is those sites as well as mature content sites.

Checked the hits with that search criteria big red and yellow flags with WOT tool ASC V6 "Safe Web Surfing tool" :lol: not one site is being identified as bad everyone is identified by ASC giving them the green tick of health.

If this tool is supposed to help safeguard your web surfing exprience then there is something seriously wrong with the plugins database.

Using ASC V6 for Safe Web Browsing is like having sex with a condom that has had pin holes put through it!

Hi Budda

Your endeavor to compare safe surfing applications is great, but would in my opinion carry more weight if some other application than WOT (Web Of Trust) was used for comparison.

WOT is build up around feedback from users, - but there is no guaranties that the users responding all are knowledgeable responsible users.

Statistical "proof" is often misinterpreted.

It would also be better if the actual results were shown.

YES. I agree with solbjerg.

WOT is mainly based on all users opinion, which we can not say that the result is just and objective. Everyone can give their ratings without any limitation or requirements to their rights. WOT is more like a recommendation reference from all users rather than a criterion.

As you can see even sites in green also have some bad feedback and sites in yellow and red have some positive feedback.

IMO the first step to a safer web surfing experience has to be what browser or browsers you use to surf the net.

I made mention of WOT and realize it uses feedback for reference and one of the big letdown of WOT once a web site gets a bad rating (take IObit as a point it received a yellow warning due to a misunderstanding) the bad rating created for that website remains that way even if the website with bad reputation has addressed the issues.

I used WOT as an example because as the WOT websitehttp://www.mywot.com/en/faq/website/rating-websites also gives a place to check out why that website was on the list and you can check how and what the ratings mean and how and if they could be manipulated. In addition, Web Of Trust runs forum and a WOT community which gives you a good place to do research and ask questions

Using a number of different plugins and never rely on just one to help in a safer web exprience and there are a few you can utilize like McAfee site adviser, Norton Safe Web lite, Avast Webreb (are user reference also like WOT) then you can add plugins like No script, Adblock, private browsing, browser protect, quick java, plugin for XSS injection attacks protection and others.

A host file like MVPS (which have not downloaded and installed their latest list yet) always helps in a safer web surfing experience.

If possible can you advise without giving any secrets away how does or what does IoBit Safe Web Browser plugin use to identify bad sites? It would be useful if the ASC V6 tool gave a reference as to why that website is safe or not safe.

Does the ASC tool block you from entering a site that the plugin has identified as not safe?

These bad websites are given the green tick by the ASC V6 safe web browsing tool and to a degree only gave lower warning with one of my other plugins.

I was little supprised that the ASC plugin did not flag those adresses

We are sorry that we can not tell you much. The only thing we can say is that it also based on a database. :wink:

Those addresses were old but still plague the net.

That being said then the database being used for reference does not include all of the known old infected addresses which IMO should be included as they are mostly all still out there infecting the novice users that can always use a safe web surfing tool inside the browser.

Browser security has come a long way with the best having inbuilt security filters that the hackers are always trying to exploit.

So using an up to date browser is a must maybe a thread pointing out the holes with the ones that are being used today and a poll as to what browser the IOBit forum users favour would help some make a more informed choice

I jumped on the Spybot wagon when it first launched but IMO this once great tool is now off the mark.

As have said have been a loyal ASC user from the day that an IT buddy showed me the AWC program & I will use the ASC tool to hopefully see improvements as the plugins database is updated hopefully with the old and especially the new

when determining which security program you are going to use on your computer.
