Yes we are growing old all the time - I am a war child - just - 1944

According to tests we get a little slower as we get on in years, but if we use our brains (exert ourselves) we can keep our brains agile - the calcification notwithstanding (somewhat).

Much like the body perhaps - keeping in shape will help the body too.

I had both my hip-joints replaced (no pain anymore and fair agility) so apart from the age induced diabetes (2) I function ok in both body and soul - in my own opinion :-)

A bit slower in both body and mind - mind you :-)
