v 2.0 locking up

Hello, I've run smart defrag on 2 systems in house and never had an issue. I love this product! After last night though, I upgraded both to v 2.0 and the one on the wifes system runs great. The upgrade on mine locks up whenever I launch it. I can launch it and maybe click on one thing, maybe even get the defrag/analyze going but as soon as it does it just locks up tight. I just have to close it or it'll sit there all day.

 

I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Also tried messing with a couple of Settings, like close when using battery. Nothing has changed what it's doing. Any advice on this would be appreciated.

If your's is a Laptop, it certainly sounds like the 'battery operation' option is set wrong, but if you have tried that I can't think of any other suggestions except to compare it to older version of SD to try to determine what is different.

No it's a desktop. I did have 1.5 and had no issues and also 2.0 is working great on the wifes system. Both systems are almost identical also. Dang thing just freezes up within sec's of me launching it.

 

Also I've tried removing and installing it once again with no luck. Thanks for the response though! =)

Does it have a USB type keyboard connected to a Hub/extension?

Another user reported lockup problem with that configuration, so thought I should check.

If so, try connecting keyboard directly to motherboard port.

No it's plugged in to the mb. Thank you for the response though! This is the nuttiest thing I've seen though. I mean I swear it starts working when I click the X/Close button and it's just running at the bottom right in the background. I actually got a defrag to finish like this while ago. After messing with it and just trying Analyze just to see if it works, it does not work when it's up and I'm looking at it. Now when I min. it, close it, it will work in the background.

 

I know this sounds crazy, but I can start the wifes and it just runs away. Mine just sits there until I restart it or Close it.

This is when I first open it, I can run cursor over things and nothing highlights.

Ok this one I hit Analyze and it stopped. The bar at the bottom just stopped where you see it. But, I could hear it still running even though I couldn't see anything.

Now this I closed the program and restarted. I pulled down the tab next to Defrag and hit Optimize. I could hear my system running like it was doing something, but the bar at the bottom just stopped under Optimizing.

Ok, now I hear things running but I swear it seems if I leave the program up where I see it, it just sits there. I go up and close the program, but it's still running at the bottom right. Now when I do this, I see the icon actually running. After I couple of min's I opened back and got this.

To me it seems like having the program Up on screen is lagging or bogging it down or something. Or everything is just a graphic issue and program is really running right in the background. Me not being able to click things, or me thinking the clicking really isn't working is messing it up. Now even knowing it's running in the background, compared to the other system I'm using it is running slow or taking way to long.

 

Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3

Running Avira Antivir and Malwarebyte's as my security programs.

This is the same thing running on other puter and the SD V.2 running on her puter runs just great.

Have you tried it with Avira and any other security program disabled?

 

Please try if you have not so.

 

I have added the folowing tip, which existed in former Smart defrag release threads, to IObit SmartDefrag v2.0 Final is Released! thread.

Tip: You can highly improve defragmenting speed by temporarily disabling the background real-time security program, or adding Smart Defrag into the trust zone or white list of your security program.

Hi Nashe

What type of computer? Laptop? Plugged in?

If the program is not chosen (in the settings) to start when Windows starts, it will be unresponsive for some seconds (perhaps 10-15) before it reacts to mouseclicks :-)

lol, so you're volunteering to buy me a new pc, yayyy! :twisted:

 

Anyhow, Done a Clean Install with the most updated version and it's still having Huge delays in anything I click on. So delayed I call it locking up as I've givin up on it working.

 

Unless there are better idea's, I'll just uninstall and give up on V 2.0. Anyway I can get version 1.5 back? =) I loved it and it never gave me the slightest troubles.

Version 2 problems

 

Hi, Having used your version 1 releases with no problems is comes as some disappointment that i have them with version 2. Before you ask... I found this version due to the automatic update notification system which then did the process of installing it, this gave the symptoms below so having read the forums it was deleted and a clean install done with the same result.

 

It sounds that i have the same problems as most of the others have reported, mainly although its working its not given me screen feedback. I know mine is working in the background but the refresh of the display isn't, to do this i have to minimize the screen and as soon as its down maximise it again. Its the only way that any shown data [i.e. the file being read, the status bar, the data in the top section and finally the map] is updated, [although this appears like it is a snapshot]. The other things i note is that the mouse [usb] becomes more skittish when this program is running. and if i click on a map tab its takes ages before it changes,this also applys to the pause/stop buttons.

 

In time i hope these problems are sorted as i like what you done with v2, would like more skins in time as the writing in some areas is small and hard to read due to its colour. Adapting system colours/setup would be good. but until the thing works properly no point. ... I await the update!

v 2.0 locking up

 

Same issue here after "upgrading" to v2.0 of defrag. UI completely hangs and only refreshes after a long time. I too tried uninstalling/installing - no difference.

 

I am running Win XP SP3 and I use McAfee; turned off McAfee with no change. I didn't try it in Safe Mode to see if it's stuck on a driver.

 

Would like to know if anyone has solved this or of new version will be coming out.

I updated to 2.0 also and had to uninstall it and go back to 1.5. (I had kept the 1.5 download in my 2010 downloads folder.) I'm on XP Pro and have not had any problem with Smart Defrag before the 2.0 version. I experienced the program being extremely slow and then unresponsive. I stopped and started it a number of times, including reboots, etc.

 

Until this gets figured out, I'll stick with 1.5. Just thought I would jump in and say this happened to me too. :roll:

I've not seen this problem with 2.0, but thought I should mention that it certainly sounds like that those seeing this are running out of Resources.

Such as Buffer-RAM or Processor Overload.

Why some computers would be Overloaded I have no Idea, though?

No it's silly to say all these people are running out of resources when the program is hanging for so many. Go to Cnet and look and a list of people there having the same issue.

 

All of us sound like the same thing is happening. Not sure if it's something to do when we upgraded, something got left behind and it's causing an issue, I donno for sure. From what I see people do love this program, but we're just asking for something more than saying we're out of resources, or we just don't know how to install a simple program, or other simple things most people know already. It's something a bit more than this.

Luckily I'm also a user that Does Not have that problem,

so there MUST be something different with your computers that see the problem?

There are Many things that can cause an Overload of Resources.

And there is Nothing Silly about that! :lol:

 

We All need to work together, to help determine where the problem is and how to fix it.

If the programmers never see the problem or we don't help isolate it, they can Not fix it.

Well thing is, me and the wife have the exact same systems, but I have a bigger and faster hard drive that has been replaced and same with Vid. card. Mine is a tad better than hers. So I have the better system and her's runs the program fine.

 

Sorry didn't mean that as harsh as I posted Toppack, I just know it's something more than what has been listed. I'm willing to try any suggestions that have not been listed seeing you all are not having the issue.

 

Funny thing is, it does run in the background if you minimize it. You can see it on the icon on the bottom and it's running. You pull it back up and after a min. or two delay, it does show the updated progress but then it freezes again. Just leave it minimized and it will defrag. Just for some reason, what it's doing and what it's showing you on the maximized program isn't the same.

My desktop machine (w/the problem) is running Win XP Pro w/SP3. Could it be the version of XP?

 

Also, as far as resources, I run any/all utilities of this nature off a fresh boot w/no other desktop apps running. 3gb ram.

Did you have an Older version of SD installed on one or both?

(was it the one with problem and not the other)

I'm asking because it seems that if all registry entries, created by older versions, do not all get removed from registry, strange things happen. :-?

I only see Defrag 2 installed within Windows Add/Remove program list. Do I need to do a manual search of the registry for v1.5?

 

Also, regarding a fresh install - are you referring just to defrag or the entire ASC?
