ASC Ultimate Database updates not working with proxy [SOLVED]

Recommended Posts

Hi dalchina,

If the problem still remains after you used the Autoupdate.exe downloaded at http://wikisend.com/download/548194/AutoUpdate.exeand to replace the original one in the program installation directory of ASCU, please download the test tool from http://wikisend.com/download/154048/GetInfo_Ultimate.exe.

Then double click to run this tool and click “Save report to Desktop”. Then you will get zipped file IObit_Debug_Info.zip on your desktop. Please send it to us so that we can get the detailed information to look into.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Cicely - the attached report (2nd one like this) follows.

The '404' error in the autoupdate.exe log would seem significant. The log indicates a repeating sequence, also suggesting there's a bug in autoupdate.exe (Victor2k left it running for up to 2 hours.. sounded like my experience).

Hi, I'm hoping for some idea.. am willing to investigate..

If autoupdate.exe is looping indefinitely, there's something that's not happening - presumably sthg in a loop without an appropriate timeout.

Any more suggestions as to what to try?

Thanks.

After 6 months, wait and try all kinds of suggestions, I given eh tells that:

(1) The problem has no solution

(2) That the database offered offline, is for a 32 bit system, which even if you copy it, the program keeps telling that is outdated (in Windows 64-bit)

(3) That if I install the original bitdefender free, this problem does not appear

Again I thank, attempts by other users to solve the problem, but I think that it is something that is not within our reach

Greetings from Argentina

Sounds like you're right, Victor. If they'd any idea from the diagnostic pack, IOBIT might have come back with something.

Time to uninstall and give up on a licensed product.

Cicely: the original Autoupdate.exe has a couple of attempts to get sthg from the internet and gives up. The newer one repeats. But evidently that fails.

So: how about you tell me the IP address(es) or URL(s) it's trying to get info from and I'll try manually and see what happens?

Thanks.

Thanks Scannan, will try that too.

I can see that Autoupdate appears to establish a connection (briefly) such as:

AutoUpdate new.exe TCP 127.0.0.1: 51819 127.0.0.1: 12080 ESTABLISHED

AutoUpdate new.exe TCP 127.0.0.1: 51840 127.0.0.1: 12080 ESTABLISHED

AutoUpdate new.exe TCP 127.0.0.1: 51858 127.0.0.1: 12080 ESTABLISHED

but I think this is dropped quite quickly each time.

I finally got the ASC Ultimate to update the definitions

I downloaded the replacement AutoUpdate.exe file from http://wikisend.com/download/548194/AutoUpdate.exe

Went to "C:\Program Files\IObit\Advanced SystemCare Ultimate"

I renamed the AutoUpdate.exe file to Original_AutoUpdate.exe

I copied the new AutoUpdate.exe to the folder

I clicked the file AutoUpdate.exe (nothing happened)

I then right-clicked and ended process tree for AutoUpdate.exe in task manager

I went back into Advanced SystemCare Ultimate and clicked 'fix now' and VOILA! it retrieved the update.

I hope this helps all of the frustrated folks out there.

**Please note that when I clicked AutoUpdate.exe prior to killing the process it attempted (there was a pop up) to get the update but did nothing. It only worked after I killed the process tree first.**

I am running Vista 32bit

Hi Cphilly, thanks, but I'm puzzled.

If I understand this correctly, you had Autoupdate.exe visible in the task manager, but the dialogue box wasn't visible.

That's never happened for me that I can remember.

("I clicked the file AutoUpdate.exe (nothing happened)").

If I launch Autoupdate.exe from its folder, the dialogue box appears.

If I then launch ASC, then click 'Fix now', the dialogue box appear in front as the window in focus. (Active window).

And if, with no Autopupdate.exe running, I click 'Fix now' the dialogue box appears, as one would expect.

So I'm curious how you achieved this:

"I clicked the file AutoUpdate.exe (nothing happened)"

Ok, autoupdate.exe runs with no update dialogue box after ASC is installed.

So I tried:

0. Check autoupdate.exe is not running.

1. Download & install ASC

2. Note from task maanger, Autoupdate.exe runs w/o the dialogue box.

3. Rename Autoupdate.exe (actually surprising this is allowed as it's running)

4. Copy new autoupdate.exe as autoupdate.exe

5. Dclick on it

(=> dialogue box - in your case it did nothing)

6. Kill process autoupdate.exe in task manager

7. Launch ASC & click Fix

8. => Dialogue box - no updates.

Hmm, what's different?

I do not remember seeing AutoUpdate.exe running when I was having the issue. Also, I did not originally look for it when trying to update as I started my troubleshooting with attempting to copy the new database manually (which failed with 1802 errors) from a different forum I found online.

To clarify... After downloading and replacing the original Autoupdate.exe and "I clicked the file AutoUpdate.exe (nothing happened)" - I did this from the folder itself & still received a pop up (like it wanted to update), but nothing happened.

What I omitted from my previous post - I then clicked 'fix now' from the ASC Ultimate console like a crazy woman but the pop up still would not retrieve the new database.

That is when I checked task manager to see if the Autoupdate.exe was visible. I ended the task process tree (I always end process tree out of habit instead of just ending the process) when I saw it.

I then clicked the 'fix now' button from ASC Ultimate console and the same pop up came but this time with a progress bar and stated the database was retrieving on the first try.

My suspicion is that maybe somehow the process from the original Autoupdate.exe was hung or stuck in memory. That is my reason for always ending a process tree instead of just ending a process through task manager.

=Additional info if it helps (hope it doesn't confuse anyone):

I did not follow any of the previous suggestions in this thread to uninstall and reinstall the application. My ASC Ultimate is an upgrade from ASC 6, so I still have the previous install folder remnants of ASC 6 visible in Program Files (I've added a picture)

Again I apologize if I confused anyone, I don't normally reply to forums but since there were so many I went through with no fix, I thought I'd try to help since mine is finally working again. :)

Appreciate your replies, CPhilly; I always get the update dialogue box displayed, except after installing ASC Ultimate (as above). The 'old' autoupdate.exe fails quickly, the new continues to try apparently for ever, as confirmed in the autoupdate.log file.

I've tried 'end process tree' - no change :-(

One obvious question.. now you've seen it update once, is it repeatable .. reliably? Or were you just very lucky.. :?:

With these things, it always worries me a bit as to whether they are caused by some other corruption, rather than the program itself. Which is now the only reason I've not given up.

In autoupdate, log, quite near the start, I see:

I have just attempted again via clicking the file in the folder "C:\Program Files\IObit\Advanced SystemCare Ultimate" and it was successful.

I have attached screenshots and will put my autoupdate.log at the end.

The only other thing I did prior to replacing the Autoupdate was attempt to manually copy the database files (which failed) to "C:\Program Files\IObit\Advanced SystemCare Ultimate\Antivirus\Plugins"

This had signature files from the following (downloaded from MajorGeeks):

Update time: Mon Jan 7 07:39:15 2013

Signature number: 8491432

Update time GMT: 1357537155

Version: 7.44740

After just attempting my signature files are now:

Update time: Wed Jan 16 09:23:11 2013

Signature number: 8620571

Update time GMT: 1358320991

Version: 7.44877

This is how a portion of my autoupdate log looks. Please note I have clicked "Fix Now" several times between the 1st of January and the 16th, but this does not show in the log:

I've added a screenshot showing the ASC console screen with the update showing. I did not turn silent mode off this time and when i clicked the autoupdate.exe via the folder I still received a popup.

Hopefully the links from the log will help you manually update the files.

Wait, wait and wait and update never arrives, I already take it as if it were a joke

The solution proposed by the CPhilly user, does not work for a windows system 7. 64 bit, this is pass I tried the program on 32-bit systems and had no update problems

A very similar solution was proposed by Cicely, several months ago with the same negative result (the replacement of the autoupdate file)

I want to repeat something that catches my attention, the update that proposes IOBIT people offline, is for a 32 bit system, does not work when working under 64-bit

Thank you very much for the constant concern of the users of this forum, but the problem is unfortunately still without solution

Thanks again CPhilly- impressed.

I can download the ini files as per your log file, but soon afterwards my log file is different. So alas, no joy here, except I have (possibly) discovered something. But it did suggest sthg (below).

So:

Victor: Can you try accessing

http://download.iobit.com/bitdefender/data_1358409776/32

from your browser and post what happens?

(I've not seen your log file, so I don't know if you have a '404' error in it.. do you?)

CPhilly: I'm guessing if you do the same, you will succeed.. could you confirm?

Having already tried disabling all protection that might block Inet access (AV, Firewall, spyblaster (passive block), and cleared out old entries in my Hosts file another security tool, to no effect, I also reinstalled ASC Ultimate in its default location. Still no change. What next? Lateral thinking =>

This time I tried blocking all Inet access with my firewall, and got a log file

Oh, I'm also thinking that this is not a complete URL in itself.. maybe the program has to add something to request specific information.. so a '404' to that URL might be reasonable... it needs IOBIT to comment.. as I've been asking..

But it's at that point in the sequence I'm seeing the 404 in my log file.. Hmm.

Thanks, Victor.. how about your autoupdate.log file? Do you see the same '404' entries?

I originally stated that I was running 32bit Vista due to your previous post to ensure that no confusion was present.

"After 6 months, wait and try all kinds of suggestions, I given eh tells that:

(1) The problem has no solution

(2) That the database offered offline, is for a 32 bit system, which even if you copy it, the program keeps telling that is outdated (in Windows 64-bit)

(3) That if I install the original bitdefender free, this problem does not appear

Again I thank, attempts by other users to solve the problem, but I think that it is something that is not within our reach

Greetings from Argentina"

Also previously stated - I attempted the manual database update because of a another forum as that was the only thing appealing to me and I trust MajorGeeks, so I trusted the download they provided. I did not want uninstall because of all the upgrades/updates I did to install the program in the first place.

As for the replacement of the autoupdate.exe file - I attempted that based on the suggestion from Cicely. The only reason I knew about that was because I found that suggestion via google.

Hi, having deleted the log file, then launched autoupdate.exe, I got a log file very similar to Cphilly's, the same until

2013-01-17 19:03:17 729 IsHaveUpdate end

2013-01-17 19:03:17 732 Get DB Error :IsHave

IOBit: this suggests some data base error.

It precedes the 404 errors I'd seen before.

Victor2k- do you see the same in your log?

Also, the date at the start is- well- weird.

(The link also has a poor 'WOT' (security risk) rating!)

I also receive the 404 error via Chrome along with the security warning. I'm pretty sure this is due to the authentication criteria being in a file somewhere that this is initiated via the application and not a browser.

I will say that I did previously allow the ASC applications thru my windows firewall after I initially installed it.

My IOBit app versions:

Advanced SystemCare Ultimate v6.0.8.289

IObit Malware Fighter v1.7.0.0

Smart Defraf v2.7

Game Booster v3.4

I checked the file version of my AutoUpdate.exe:

File Version: 6.5.15.347

Product Version 1.0.0.0

File version of original Audotupdate.exe:

File Version: 6.5.17.418

Product Version: 6.0.0.0

I checked my windows firewall (which typically I blocked inbound connections - but during an attempt to fix this download issue I allowed them) I do see there are inbound connections for ASC.

One other thing for Victor2K.

This may be a stupid question, but have you tried to right click your AutoUpdate.exe and run as administrator? I know that Win7 is a little touchy and does not run in administrator mode even if you are logged on as one (based on my previous experience with Win7 systems).

I've even found this to be true with some of my apps in Vista now. I initially must launch the app as an administrator for it to function to its full capacity.

Maybe try killing all of your ASC apps and relaunching them specifically with the run as administrator option (unless you have manually set the app to do so in the properties of the exe file.)
