If you forgot the password for Protected Folder please follow the procedure below:

Please follow the steps below to reset your password of Protected Folder.

1) Please run your computer in Safe Mode with Networking.

Guide to boot in safe mode : http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm

Guide to boot in safe mode in Windows 8/8.1: http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-boo...fe-mode-guide/

Guide to boot in safe mode in Windows 10: http://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-boot-safe-mode-windows-10

2) Please download the tool from the link : http://testdemo.iobit.com/PFTool.exe

3) Please run PFTool.exe and follow the instructions in PFTool.exe to finish the process.

If users can not reset their password by the above method, they can send a PM to Cicely

Hi ffansszi,

The password reset tool PFTool.exe is designed to delete the old passward. Then you can run your Protected Folder to create a new password.

This is really helpful. I spent hours on fixing this issue and it turns out OP suggestion is the most effective one.

Is the method recommended above free? Windows 7 is old system , it including some free way to reset password , like the CMD (Command prompt) ,it can be used to scan the operating system and user can reset password of local user account , you can reset a new account password and use it to login computer ,

I also was getting an issue, later I found out that it was Avast Anti Virus which was not allowing me to go into safe mode.
