Accusation Thread - Dispute

solbjerg

Recommended Posts

It seems - after what has been published on our forum - that at least part of this whole fracas comes from MBAM wanting IObit to stop the contest.

In one of the statements from IObit it was mentioned that the president of MBAM had approach them and asked them to stop the contest.

Contest! I would hardly refer to this as a contest but a rather serious legal issue. Perhaps this definition was not posted in its full context which is why it appears like a bad joke and and makes one think it's a game, which it is not.

Finally one member named ccomputertek came to his senses over on Wilders Security and made this declaration:

And why ten pages of posts ? is this really any of our business ? how many posting here are or were actually IOBIT customers ? If you never were then you should just leave it alone, it's not your problem. If your a malwarebytes customer it doesn't affect you either, simply continue updating and using the program. How many more pages of this why sit here all night creating page after page of posts if it doesn't concerne you ?

8 pages ago it was still interesting, not since then, time to talk about something else now. You do realize that every post increases the size of wilders unnecessasarily ( spelling ) no need to make wilders go from 100megs to 150 megs over this. Let their attorneys handle it from here. NOW STOP ! ! ! ! ! !

~Maxx~

This may be true Maxx but it is news and as such, people have a right to voice their options and concerns. Would you prefer we all just swept it under the carpet and pretended a crime never occurred?

I do appreciate that many of the posts are simply repetitive and pretty much read the same however I for one, feel that there is more to this than meets the eye and IOBits lack of response does not inspire me one bit. Surely they must value their customers and their position in the security industry (well the current lack of it) and should at least have the decency to let these people know what the current position is and any plans to close this issue professionally. Does it not leave you feeling insecure and doubtful of your position there?

This is ridiculous........The Test is closed

I have been working so hard on the report and almost spent more than 50$ for gathering the spywares and constructing the report.

Who will be covering for this loss of money , time and hard work?????????

Ha-ha IssViews

Are you purposely misunderstanding me, or don't you know that IObit 8 weeks ago opened a "comparison contest" for malware detection? With bi-weekly 1. prize winners and special award winners.

Cheers

IssViews, please do some research before posting.

IObit was hosting a 'contest' which asked users to test and compare different ant-malware software.

This is not the same as the accusations made by Malwarebytes that is the topic of this thread

If you really want to know you will search for the answer !

Edit: I am no match for the flying fingers of solbjerg

Ha-ha - you wrote more!! :-)

Hi joshua

I understand your frustration - perhaps IObit will understand it too.

At least you proved to yourself that you could do it!

You must remember though that no one can know if you would have won or not.

In the current climate IObit has decided to stop the contest.

Cheers

Wow, just found out about this. Had to remove this app ASAP! What are IObit thinking? I really liked this program as it had real-time protection.

I don’t know what’s worse, what IObit have done or the people still defending this software. What don’t people understand, IObit is in the security business yet are packaging malware in their product, on their website and even have pornography all over the place. As for the MBAM incident people surely aren’t that simple minded, IObit have to be guilty to have a definition on a file that DOESN’T EVEN EXIST. Unreal.

No wonder NOD32 is now flagging this product as a virus, who knows what else this software has been doing inside our computers.

Then surely the contest should have been posted in a more appropriate thread than within this discussion as it is easy for one to mis-understand (as you say) where your comments refer too. I also do not see the relevence of placing a competition within an accusation thread! This is my view and I feel justified in saying it.

Perhaps some administration would stop others from assuming the same thing!

Ha-ha IsViews

We administrators cannot stop anyone from assuming anything

But the contest was not placed in the thread, - there was a reference to it, that had to do with a question posed.

And to assume that anyone would call the

Accusation Thread - Dispute for a contest, seems a little farfetched.

So let's stop this conversation.

Goodbye

Hi solbjerg

Is this really true that IObit is not available for download on the site of IObit????

Hi k4you

Yes I think so - at least concerning IS360

Apparently several download sites has pulled the connection to the download option for IS360.

Probably has to do with some legal side issue to the current situation.

But IObit writes that it will be remedied soon.

Has this been confirmed and when did it happen(since these allegations surfaced ?)

Maybe they have been victim of theft too ?

Interesting comment by Littlebits(Administrator and software tester at SSUpdater.com( FYI This site hated MBAM more than IObit hate MBAM currently)

Another thing that I also noticed that it detect the exact same false positives as Yahoo! Anti-Spy provided by CA (eTrust). So I believe they also are using CA (eTrust) signatures.

http://forums.iobit.com/showthread.php?p=29545#post29545 From this very forum and tested myself.

Who's next? Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky, Avira. IObit are packaging malware in the setup.exe with conduit, a rogue toolbar, so they changed this to Yahoo after what's been happening the last day or so.

Also now Softpedia have stopped hosting the download of IObit Security http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/IObit-Security-360.shtml, how can IObit expect anyone to to host their file when they have taken it down themselves http://www.iobit.com/security360.html?Str=download

Thanks for the link, very suspicous, doesn't look good for IObit. Why take down the download if they've done nothing wrong, talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

I was actually wondering when the Controversial rating was going to be activated. I noticed a couple days after the "comment attack" - good comments re-appeared.

It appears it is deemed rogue by hpHosts. (added 2-11-09)

It was activated after a notable number of rather suspicious accounts were created from a couple of Chinese IP addresses and used for manipulating comment votes. They cast thousands of votes in an attempt to hide all negative comments left for iobit.com, and also left some fake comments for both iobit.com and malwarebytes.org.

IObit just don't know when to quit, talk about damage control, lol.

Hi,

I am trying to follow this story as closely as I can. There is, though, one thing that worries me:

1. if IObit is right and Malwarebytes wrong why does not go IObit to Court with this?

Lots of French-speaking users think along those lines. Something should be done to reassure them. Otherwise they start looking elsewhere.

So, mods.....any more evidence you need that something stinks of crud around here?

(Sami is a Web Of Trust founder/admin).....so he is not lying...or has WOT got an agenda against the pure IOBit too?

How can your consience still allow you to defend this company when it is clear that they are as dirty as mud.....unless all the "volunteers" are actually employees too...wouldn't put it past IOBit tbh with the soap opera of revelations..

Is someone going to tell this guy the truth? That the detection rates have dropped off the planet due to the fact that IObit pulled out all the stolen ones? Poor chap bought it too as it's PRO.

EDIT: I would love to but even more fun will be the fabricated and contrived response that I expect from you guys.

Hi solberg,

I bring news to them who do not get out much :)

It's a pity the malware test competition has been cancelled.

Because i know folks that will be shortly comparing the old versus the new IObit 360 for detection rates and some have started already.

Source

http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/i...dpost&p=154444

IObit Security 360

OS:Windows XP

Version:1.2.0.10

Define Version:1273

Time Elapsed:00:00:12

Objects Scanned:1857

Threats Found:367

367/1857 = 19.7%

Versus

IObit Security 360

OS:Windows XP

Version:1.1.0.30

Define Version:1269

Time Elapsed:00:00:10

Objects Scanned:1857

Threats Found:1427

1427/1857= 76.8%

Theses tests can be verified by anyone with access to new and old version of IObit+ a good bunch of 0-3 mth old malware.

Wow thats a massive drop in detection rates would you not agree and no wonder the contest versus other softwares has been pulled.

The IObit carpet now has too big a pile of dust under it for most to ignore;-)

Cheers!
